“We’re seeing a shift towards global institutions investing in and through our funds,“ explains Sam Oh, a partner at Apollo Global Management LLC, at the 18th annual Wharton Private Equity and Venture Capital Conference. Oh, who spoke on a leveraged buyout panel at the conference, goes on to say, “We are seeing much bigger LPs coming into the space that previously weren't even around, say, 10 years ago.” This evolving global playing field, along with “larger pools of capital concentrated in fewer hands,” will lead to “more customized, tailored programs for some of these larger LPs, which is really what the market demands,” he adds. — Sarah Hashim-Waris

“I’m glad we’re not out there right now,” says Christina Morin, managing principal at Graham Partners, when asked about the current landscape of private equity fundraising. “The funds that are achieving success,” she adds, “are those that are either large and have institutional profiles ... and boutique firms that have deep domain expertise, an established track record and a solid team.” Morin, who spoke on a panel about the perspectives of limited partners at the 18th annual Wharton Private Equity & Venture Capital Conference, goes on to say that upcoming regulation will lead to added scrutiny for PE firms.
